Lunar calendar for planting tulips. When to plant tulips, daffodils, lilies, crocuses and other bulbous plants in the fall according to the lunar calendar When is the best time to plant tulips according to the lunar calendar

Tulips are almost the most popular flowers in city and country flower beds. They are unpretentious in care and delight with flowering for a long time. And in order for it to be consistently bright and lush, tulip bulbs are dug up in the summer and replanted in open ground in the fall. Experienced flower growers already know when it’s best to plant tulips, but it’s difficult for beginners to navigate. Tulips planted in the fall should have time to take root in the soil before the onset of frost, but not send out leaves (otherwise they will freeze).

Our family has been growing tulips for a long time and in huge quantities! Just look at how beautiful it is:

And this is what the bulbs look like ready for autumn planting:

We do not have one clear date for the autumn planting of tulips. When they had time, they imprisoned me. Usually we plant tulips in the third ten days of September (20th - 30th day of the month), but it happened later - the bulbs took root well. However, it should be noted that we do not have complex, rare varieties. Therefore, let’s take a look at the country literature to take into account all the nuances of determining the timing of planting tulips in the fall. And at the same time, let’s look through the Lunar calendar for 2018 😉

One of the issues of the magazine “My Blooming Garden” talks in great detail about storing tulips in the summer, as well as the features of autumn planting. Let's take a look at this source first.

Tulips in summer: cleaning and storage

So, at the beginning of summer (June-July), tulip bulbs are dug up, dried and stored. And here I would like to dwell on this point (we thought it was very important): during storage in the summer, the author of the article recommends observing the temperature regime:

  • For the first 2 days after digging, tulip bulbs are dried in the fresh air under a canopy,
  • For the next 10-12 days, the bulbs are dried in a room equipped for drying at a temperature of 22-24 degrees Celsius.
  • The bulbs are peeled and stored until mid-August at a temperature of +20 degrees.
  • From mid-August until planting in open ground in the fall, it is recommended to store the bulbs at 17 degrees Celsius.

Why dig up tulips at all and then plant them again in open ground in the fall? It is believed that this promotes lush flowering and better development of daughter bulbs.

Tulips in autumn: What month to plant?

The author of the brochure “My Blooming Garden” recommends planting tulip bulbs in open ground in the fall in the second half of September. Bulbs planted at this time have time to take root well before the onset of frost. It is also important to observe the temperature regime here. In the area where the bulb is located, the temperature for 7 days should not exceed +10 degrees.

The magazine “Homestead Farming” gives a more precise planting date: from September 15 to October 5. It is also said that the fastest rooting occurs at a soil temperature of 5-7 degrees, and if it is higher, the bulbs take root more slowly and are more often affected by diseases.

What happens if you plant the bulbs earlier?

  • They say that this will not have the best effect on plants in the spring: on a stem that begins to grow early, you will see damaged leaves or buds.

What if you delay planting and plant tulips too late?

  • The bulbs will not take root well and will suffer from frost.

The lunar calendar says...

How to plant?

Tulips are planted in ridges or flower beds 10-12 cm high. For planting, holes are dug and clean river sand (layer 2-3 cm) is poured onto the bottom. The sand will protect the bottom of the bulb from the penetration of pathogenic bacteria. The bulb is lowered into the hole with the bottom down, the sides are also sprinkled with river sand, and the top is sprinkled with soil. Please note: the layer of soil above the onion should be twice its height. And if the soil is sandy, then deepen it another 1-3 cm.

Finally, the tulips are watered and the beds are mulched with peat or humus (a layer of about 6 cm).

Distance between bulbs:

  • Large bulbs (3.5 cm +) are planted 20 cm apart in rows and 20 cm between rows,
  • Small bulbs (3 - 3.5 cm) are planted at a distance of 10 cm in a row and 20 cm between rows,
  • Very small onions (less than 3 cm in diameter) can be planted even more often.

Among the many flowers, bright, majestic tulips are very popular among gardeners, despite their short flowering period. If you are planning to plant tulips, then the main task of all novice gardeners is the exact choice of planting time. In this article you will learn the rules when to plant tulips before winter in 2017.

Tulip bulbs should be planted around September or early October before the first frost. The timing of planting flowers depends on the region. For example, in the north they plant in early September. In the southern regions, it is most rational to postpone planting bulbs until the end of October. Pay attention to save planting material.

You can also navigate by soil temperature. At a depth of 10 cm, it should not exceed 10°C heat. Warmer soil may allow the bulbs to germinate. Cooler soil will prevent the bulbs from taking root before frost. Therefore, when trying to determine when to plant tulips before winter in 2017 in the Moscow region, the time for planting the bulbs can be determined by adhering to the above advice.

Preparing bulbs and soil

The flower bed where the flowers will be planted should be located in a sunny place. Tulips need a lot of sunny color in order to bloom well. It is also better to make a flower garden on a small hill so that water does not accumulate in this place and the bulbs do not rot from excess moisture. Before planting, the soil must be well prepared. Dig thoroughly and loosen the soil. Clear the soil of weeds. Mix the soil with compost, peat or any other fertilizer and level the surface.

Also, before planting the bulbs, the planting material should be sorted out and any rotten, excessively dry or deformed ones should be thrown away. To disinfect, the bulbs are soaked in a manganese solution for 2 hours.

How to plant bulbs

You have learned when to plant tulips before winter in 2017 and have decided on the planting time, let’s look at the basic rules for planting bulbs in the ground. how it should be carried out correctly.

Dig holes to a depth of about 10 cm for large bulbs and about 5 cm for children. The distance between the holes depends on the size of the planting material. Usually it is 10-15 cm. Children can be planted thicker. Next, place the onion in each hole with the sharp end up, pressing a little to make sure that it stands vertically. Next, water abundantly, sprinkle the planting material with soil and lightly level the surface with a rake.

Advice! If the planting site is prone to stagnation of moisture, then it is necessary to add a little fine gravel or sand into each hole. Such drainage will prevent the planting material from rotting.

In order for tulips to winter well, they are covered with mulch. Peat, humus, and fallen leaves are used as mulch. This “coat” protects the bulbs from temperature changes and keeps it even.

Placing bulbs during planting

If the bulbs are different in size, then for the correct composition the largest ones are placed in the middle of the flower bed. After that comes a row of medium-sized bulbs. Small ones and children are placed along the edge of the flower bed.

This way, when flowering begins, large flowers will not block small ones from the sun. Ways that will help the gardener...

Mistakes when planting flowers:

  • Late time for planting bulbs. These late-planted plants have little time to prepare for the winter cold and take root. Such flowers will most likely get sick and will not bloom when spring comes.
  • Incorrect planting depth. Quite an important factor. Because if a tulip bulb is planted above the required depth, it may simply freeze. Also, planting too deeply will cause the plant to be late in the beginning of the growing season.
  • Planting damaged, diseased bulbs. You should make sure that the tulip bulbs are absolutely healthy. To do this, carefully examine each bulb. If there is any doubt about the quality of the material, it is mercilessly thrown away.

Eco-Friendly Homesteading: Fall bulbous flowers should be purchased and planted in the fall and bloom the following spring. These are: tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, imperial hazel grouse, decorative onions, muscari, crocuses, small-bulbous plants (scylla, chionodxa, pushkinia, scilla).

Autumn bulbous flowers should be purchased and planted in the fall and bloom the following spring. These are: tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, imperial hazel grouse, decorative onions, muscari, crocuses, small-bulbous plants (scylla, chionodxa, pushkinia, scilla).

Out-of-season bulbous lilies are planted both in spring and autumn. When planted in spring, out-of-season bulbous bulbs bloom the same year, and when planted in autumn, the next year. You need to order and pay for bulbous plants with delivery by mail in advance so that you will already receive the package by the time of planting season. Find out favorable days for purchasing and planting bulbous plants according to the Lunar sowing calendar for gardeners and gardeners.

How to choose good bulbs

When purchasing tulips, daffodils, lilies and other plants, pay attention to the size of the bulb; the quality of flowering depends on it. Inspect the bulbs. They must be dense, in no case withered, have no soft rotten places, or the smell of mold. Pay attention to the bottom of the bulb - it should be dry and dense, this is the key to the health and vitality of the plants. Bulbs of low-growing varieties and species plants have smaller bulbs, this is normal.

In hyacinths, the color of the covering scales of the bulbs, as a rule, resembles the color of the inflorescences. In addition, pink, purple, and blue hyacinths have bulbs that are usually broadly conical, yellow and orange hyacinths are narrowly conical, and white hyacinths are ovoid. Varieties of different colors should have different colored bulbs.

It is very risky to buy lily bulbs after forcing. They are very light because their scales have been depleted of nutrients. They don't bloom the next year. If you are attracted by the price and are willing to skip two or three flowering seasons, you can buy lilies after forcing them.

How to properly treat bulbs before planting

Remove packaged bulbs from packaging at home and immediately discard severely damaged ones. Before planting, clean newly purchased bulbs and treat them for infections. Bulbs infected with penicillium rot often go on sale. The disease manifests itself in the form of gray-green sporulation on the integumentary scales of the bulb. If the penicillium spots are small, the bulb can be cured.

Often, on apparently healthy bulbs, if you remove the integumentary scales, you can find the first signs of fusarium: grayish depressed spots surrounded by a brighter border. They should be removed to avoid introducing infection into the garden.

The best days for treating plants and planting material from diseases and pests according to the horticulturist’s lunar calendar are August 6, 10-12 and September 1-5, 11, 12, 29, 30.

How and where to plant bulbous plants in the garden

The planting depth of the bulb can be calculated using the “rule of three”: from the bottom to the soil surface there should be a distance equal to the height of the bulb multiplied by 3. On heavy soil, it is better to reduce the planting depth by 20%.

During the growing season and flowering, bulbs need sun, but when they are dormant, light is not so important. Blooming in early spring, small bulbous plants can be planted among deciduous trees, which bloom around the time the foliage of these flowers dies.

Bulbous plants do not tolerate stagnation of water, but, as a rule, they are demanding in terms of nutrition and moisture during the growing season. The best choice for them is nutritious and moisture-absorbing, but well-drained loamy soil. Sandy soil requires additional watering and increased fertilizing.

Plants whose bulbs need to be dug up for the summer (tulips, hyacinths, hazel grouse) can be planted in flower beds with fast-growing annuals and biennials: nasturtiums, aromatic tobacco, violas, forget-me-nots, daisies. They will decorate empty spaces in the flower garden.

When should you plant autumn bulbs?

First, in late August - early September, plant small-bulbous plants: scylla, muscari, pushkinia, chionodoxa, crocuses.

Gradually progress to planting daffodils in late August/early September, then plant tulip bulbs around mid-September. It is better not to rush into planting hyacinths. The most favorable moment is the second ten days of October, when the temperature reaches about +8°C.

Is it possible to plant bulbs, for example, in July–August? Yes, but they begin to take root at a soil temperature of about +10ºС, and until this time they will lie in the ground, where onion flies, wireworms, weeds and various diseases lie in wait for them.

Is it possible to buy bulbs late - at the end of autumn - and how to plant them?

You can buy unsprouted bulbs at fall sales. Many companies offer good discounts on so-called expired bulbs. Bulbs can be planted in slightly frozen soil without compromising flowering the following year. When planting, such bulbs must be covered for the winter. The bulbous shelter should be dry and well ventilated.

To plant small bulbs in cold soil, you must first place them in a pot with garden soil, use a drill or crowbar to make a sufficient depression in the frozen soil, place the pot, bury it with the removed soil, mulch the planting site with peat and cover the top with a covering material (spunbond, lutrasil ).

If, during late planting, the bulbs (corms) were covered on top with spruce branches (film, non-woven material, foliage, etc.) or a large layer of compost, then in the spring, before flowering, the mulching layer must be raked off and the covering materials removed.

The best days for preparing plants for winter and installing shelters according to the Lunar calendar are 2-5, 7, 8, 10-12, 14-18, 20, 22-26, 29 and 30 September and 1-5, 7, 19, 28, 29th of October. These same days are suitable for mulching plantings.

When to buy lilies: autumn or spring?

The most favorable time for planting lily bulbs is early September. Bulbs planted at this time will take root well and overwinter well. But in the fall it is difficult to find good planting material. Mostly they sell bulbs that are left over from the spring sale and have been in the refrigerator for almost a year.

The main flow of planting material comes to us from countries with a longer growing season, where bulbs are dug in October-November. Therefore, we receive a new harvest in the spring, from industrial cold storage. In the fall, on the shelves, as a rule, there are bulbs that have been stored for a year, ready to start growing, and sometimes even bulbs with sprouts. It is better not to buy such lilies. Therefore, it is worth buying bulbs only from local producers in the fall, and imported ones in the spring.

Many people buy lily bulbs in winter, in January and February, when the first exhibitions begin. These bulbs should be refrigerated and stored in packaging. If the sprouts become large and continue to grow, then the bulbs should be planted in a container and kept in a cool, bright place.

Is it possible to buy lilies with sprouts? In spring you can buy lilies with sprouts. In the fall, you should not buy lilies with sprouts. They will continue to grow when planted and will die at the first frost.

The best lunar days for purchasing bulbs and planting material according to the Gardener's Sowing Calendar are September 14, 15 and 16. October 14 and 15.

On these days, according to the Lunar calendar of gardeners and gardeners in 2015, it is better to refuse to purchase plants: August 1, 8, 9, 14, 29 and September 4, 5, 13 and 28.

When to plant lilies - in spring or autumn?

It is better to plant purchased lilies in the fall. Then the timing can be varied, since the bulbs are at rest and will not begin to grow. The optimal time for planting lilies is the end of August, September and even October. Don't plant lilies too late as they take time to establish. When planted late, the bulbs do not have time to grow sufficient root mass and overwinter worse.

When planting lilies late, it is better to make a shelter. Cut branches of shrubs and arrange them over the bulbs in a “hut”. Cover with oak leaves (they are the least likely to rot and cake). Cover the top with an inverted vegetable box, then with a waterproof material (the ends of the box should be ventilated). Press down the cover with heavy objects.

You can plant purchased lilies in the spring. When planted in spring, the bulbs bloom the same year. But when planting in spring, you most likely have bulbs from cold storage, and when you transfer them to warmth, they grow quite quickly. Therefore, the time for planting will be quite limited.

You need to have time to plant the bulbs while the sprouts are still small. If they have reached 10-15 cm, then the bulbs need to be planted sideways so that the sprouts are placed in the groove next to them almost horizontally. They will gradually take on a vertical position and the plant will bloom in the same year, although it may be weaker. When planted in spring, the bulbs spend time growing the root system to the detriment of growth and flowering, and sometimes they simply rot the following winter.

The optimal time for planting and replanting lilies in regions with short summers (Moscow region, Leningrad region, Ural, Siberia) is mid-late August. In the southern regions, planting dates are shifted about a month later, in the northern regions, on the contrary, earlier.

The optimal time for transplanting and planting lilies in central Russia is August-September, in the southern regions - October. In principle, you can plant later, when the soil temperature is close to zero, but in this case you will have to cover the plants well for the winter.

When to plant and arrange daffodils

Daffodils should be dug up later than tulips, as soon as the foliage has almost completely turned yellow (June-July), and planted earlier - before the end of September. The optimal time for planting daffodils is the second half of August, since the roots of daffodils grow most actively in September. In central Russia, daffodils are planted from approximately August 20 to September 1. If they are planted later, along with tulips, they will not have time to develop a root system, which means they will overwinter worse.

It is better to mulch daffodil bulbs planted after dry storage (without roots) with fallen leaves (layer thickness at least 10 cm); this operation will not be needed in the future, since daffodils can grow in one place for 5–7 years. The only exception is split-crowned daffodils, which are mulched annually.

When to plant hyacinths

Hyacinth bulbs are planted in central Russia (Moscow region, Leningrad, Vologda, Kostroma and other regions) and the Southern Urals in late September - early October. Like tulips, if planted too early, hyacinths may begin to grow and die in winter, and if planted too late, they will not have time to take root before the soil freezes to the planting depth.

However, hyacinths can be planted until the first half of November. But then the place should be insulated in advance with leaves or other material from what is at hand, and protected with film from rain and snow. And after planting, re-install the insulation.

Experts advise preparing the site for planting hyacinths in August, two months before planting, otherwise natural settlement of the soil may cause the roots to break off, which will begin to develop in the fall. When planting in holes, it is advisable to add well-rotted compost or peat, if it was not added when preliminary digging the soil.

With the onset of persistent cold weather, it is better to cover the hyacinth plantings. To do this, you can use dry peat, humus, sawdust, dry fallen leaves and spruce branches. In the spring, as soon as the soil begins to thaw, the cover must be carefully removed, since hyacinths sprout very early.

After spring home forcing, hyacinth bulbs can also be planted in the garden. But not in spring, but in autumn. After the leaves wither, the bulbs must be carefully removed from the pot, dried at room temperature, and cleaned of old roots and covering scales. Store in peat, not allowing it to dry out until the beginning of September at a temperature of about +25°C.

The best days for forcing plants according to the Lunar calendar of gardeners and gardeners 2015: October 1, 7, 19, 28, November 1, 2, 15, 16, 30 and December 1, 12, 13, 27 and 28.

When to plant crocuses

Crocus is an early spring flower, so most varieties of this plant need to be planted in the ground before winter, that is, in the fall, in September-October. Planting crocuses on the lawn under fruit trees, next to a water well, where the soil later freezes, will allow plants to be planted even in November. But if you want to have flowering crocuses next spring, you should order and purchase crocus corms in late summer.

There are also autumn varieties of crocuses; they bloom in August-September. Their bulbs need to be planted in summer (July-August). Such crocuses are more whimsical and require careful care, weeding and watering. Therefore, they are less popular than early flowering ones. When planting crocus bulbs, you must take into account their light-loving nature: if there is not enough light, the buds do not open.

How to plant crocuses after forcing

Indoor crocuses - plants that bloomed in a pot indoors - after forcing, can be planted again in the garden. After flowering, remove the faded inflorescence so that the plant does not waste energy trying to form seeds.

Gradually reduce watering, stimulating the flow of nutrients into the bulb. When the leaves turn completely yellow, remove the bulb, dry it at room temperature, and clean it of old roots and covering scales.

After forcing, crocus bulbs can be planted in the ground as early as May, after the soil has thawed. The plants will not bloom this season; it is unlikely that they will produce full blooms next year.

When to plant small bulbous plants

Small-bulbous plants (crocuses, kandyki, chionodoxes, muscari, scylla, pushkinia, corydalis, galanthus and others) can not be dug up for several years until they grow. When plants begin to crowd each other, usually in June, when the leaves turn yellow, the plants are dug up, divided and replanted in a new location.

In the second half - end of August, new planting material is planted. Plants must have time to take root before the onset of cold weather. On lighter soils, the bulbs are planted a little deeper, and on heavier soils, a little shallower than the standard recommended depth. It is better to bury small bulbs - baby bulbs - less than adult bulbs.

When to plant tulips

The optimal time for planting tulip bulbs in central Russia (Moscow region, Leningrad region, Non-Black Earth Region) and regions with short summers (Ural, Siberia) is at the end of September - beginning of October, when the soil temperature at a depth of 10 cm is about +10°C, and Before the soil freezes, plants have time to form roots (about 20-30 days).

Plants that do not have time to take root well will receive less nutrition and will be stunted in growth. Immediately before planting, it is recommended to soak the bulbs for 30-60 minutes in a 0.5% solution of potassium permanganate or special disinfectants (for example, Maxim).

During a prolonged warm autumn, mulch the tops of the tulips with a 10 cm layer of peat so that the plants are not damaged by subsequent frosts.

When to plant tulips according to the Lunar calendar

Tulips that do not require digging for 3-6 years: Kaufman, Foster, Greig, species, as well as Darwin hybrids, Triumph, Simple early and Simple late. They are best planted with drought-resistant perennial species with shallow root systems, such as sedums. In summer, the bulbs of such tulips do not want moisture. Planted sedums live in a flower garden for 3-6 years, and when the time comes to dig up the bulbs, the clumps of sedum are carefully removed with a shovel, and after harvesting the tulips they are returned to the flower garden.

When to plant imperial hazel grouse

Usually hazel grouse are planted in the garden in September-October. Forced later planting of bulbs requires mulching the planting site and covering it with oak leaves for the winter. Hazel grouse bulbs do not have covering scales, so they must be handled with the utmost care, avoiding drying out and mechanical damage. published

Tulips are bright representatives of early spring flowers. They look impressive when planted in groups in flower beds and beds. Flower bulbs can be planted both in autumn and spring. But not many people know that autumn planting is more preferable for plants. Having understood the timing and technology of planting tulips, next spring the flowers will delight you with beautiful and bright colors.

Autumn is a great time to plant tulips.

In order for tulips to quickly germinate and grow in the spring, they require a cooling period. In autumn, when nature prepares for a period of dormancy, the planted tulips become active. Growth processes begin in them, roots are formed, which store food for the development of the upper part of the flowers next spring.

Tulips planted in the spring bloom much later than planted ones, before the onset of winter. The stems of the flowers are thinner and the flowering is weak. When planted in spring, plants do not have time to fully develop due to the lack of a cooling period, which negatively affects their appearance, as well as the quality of the bulbs that will be collected for the next planting.

When to plant tulips in the fall, timing

Even experienced gardeners make mistakes from time to time when determining the period for planting tulips. Having planted the bulbs too late, the tulips do not have time to take root before the first frost and in the spring their development and flowering are greatly delayed.

If planted too early, the plants sprout, freeze during the first frost and
rot, sometimes they sprout in the spring, but bloom late and poorly. In addition, such plantings are overgrown with weeds, which in the spring interfere with the growth and development of flowers.

Tulips must be planted on time, and each region has its own time.

In the Middle Zone

In the climatic conditions of Central Russia, tulips are planted from the last ten days of September to mid-October.

When choosing a day, you need to focus on the air temperature at night, when the air temperature drops to 3 degrees Celsius and will remain at this level for 3 days.

In outskirts of Moscow

The timing of planting tulips for the Moscow region is at the end of September - mid-October. Snow falls in this region in November, by which time the bulbs have time to take root, but do not grow.

In the Urals, in Siberia

Planting of tulips in the Urals is divided into different regions.

  • In the Middle Urals, planting tulips continues from the end of August until the end of the second ten days of September.
  • In the Southern Urals, planting continues from the beginning of September until the beginning of the second ten days of October.
  • In the Northern Urals, planting ends in mid-September.

In Siberia, the first frosts can come quite early. To prevent the bulbs from freezing, it is better to plant them in the last days of August. If the weather permits, these dates can be postponed until mid-September.

Before planting tulips, the healthy, largest bulbs are selected. Small, damaged and diseased ones are not used for planting.

Before planting tulips in the ground, the bulbs are placed in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning they are treated with a 0.2% solution of karbofos, and then placed for half an hour in a pink solution of potassium permanganate or any antifungal agent, for example, Agat, Maxim, Albit, Oxychom, Skor or Khom.

For planting tulips, choose a well-lit, protected from the wind, flat, slightly elevated or slightly sloping place. The site should not be shaded by buildings, fences, or trees. Shadow negatively affects the quality of tulip flowering.

The main requirement for planting is good drainage. When groundwater passes close, the roots begin to rot, which leads to damage to the bulbs and death of the flowers. Groundwater should pass at a level of 1.5-2 meters from the surface of the earth. If the groundwater level is high (up to 100 centimeters on sandy loam soil, up to 40 centimeters on clay soil), it is necessary to construct a drainage system.

Land preparation

The soil should be fertile, loose and slightly acidic. It should allow both air and moisture to pass through well. The area is cleared of weeds.

When digging, the structure of heavy clay soil is improved by adding river sand and peat (5 kilograms per square meter). Clay chips are added to the sandy area (a bucket per square meter).

In any soil 2-4 weeks before planting, 5 kilograms of compost or rotted humus, 0.2 kilograms of wood ash, 15 grams of ammonium nitrate and 50 grams of superphosphate are added per square meter for digging.

In dry weather, 2 days before planting the bulbs, the soil is spilled with water and leveled with a rake. In loose and moist soil it will be easier for roots to grow.

Immediately before planting, the flowerbed is spilled with a warm solution of potassium permanganate or a fungicide to destroy harmful microorganisms in the soil.

Tulips are planted in holes or in rows. The bulbs are placed with their bottoms down. You cannot press them when landing! The depth of the holes should be 3 times the height of the bulbs.

The planting depth for extra-class bulbs is 15-18 centimeters. Tulip bulbs of types 2 and 3 are planted at a depth of 10-12 centimeters, children - at a depth of 6-8 centimeters. On light soil, the bulbs are planted deeper, and on heavy soil, on the contrary, more shallowly.

The distance between tulips should be 6-10 centimeters (depending on the size of the bulbs). Row spacing should be 25 centimeters.

Larger bulbs are placed in the center of the flowerbed, and smaller ones on the sides, then taller plants will not block the light from lower ones and the flowers will bloom evenly.

When planting bulbs of different varieties, the flowering dates of the groups are taken into account, this simplifies further care.

If the ground is dry, the holes are well shed with water. At the bottom of the holes, if the soil has not been fertilized in advance, a special fertilizer for bulbous crops is applied, which is covered with a layer of sand of 2-3 centimeters.

The bulbs are dusted with wood ash and sprinkled with sand on all sides. After this, the spread out bulbs are covered with loose soil.

If you need to lay out some kind of pattern with tulips on a flowerbed, then the top layer of soil is removed from the area. The bulbs are placed on a leveled surface according to the pattern, then covered with pre-cut and crushed soil.

To create a carpet effect, the bulbs are planted in a checkerboard pattern. About 100 tulips are used per square meter of flower bed.

Flowers are planted carefully so that the roots of the plants are not damaged. After planting the bulbs, the beds are leveled so that water does not accumulate on them. If necessary, a drainage system is formed around the flowerbed to drain water.

After planting tulips, the bulbs do not need to be watered. If there has been no rain for 10 days, the flowerbed is moistened using a watering can.

When watering plants, you can feed them a little with ammonium nitrate (15 grams per square meter of flower bed).

In warm weather, planted tulips do not need to be covered with mulch, as excess heat will provoke premature growth of the bulbs and the sprouts will die in case of frost.

Preparing tulips for winter involves protecting them from the cold and rodents.

Planted plants are protected from rodents by a shelter made of spruce branches. Spruce branches additionally protect plants in severe frosts.

Before the onset of persistent cold weather, tulips are covered with a 5-centimeter layer of straw, peat, pine needles, spruce branches or dry tree leaves. These measures protect flowers from freezing and increase the number of buds next season.

Fallen snow is a natural protection against the cold. With a small thickness of snow cover, the bulbs are protected from the effects of negative temperatures. Snow cover also prevents cracking of the soil, which can harm the roots of tulips. The rate of thawing of the earth with the arrival of spring in the presence of snow in the flowerbed accelerates. Moreover, when snow melts, it saturates plants with moisture.

With the onset of spring, the shelter from the plants is removed, which allows the plants to grow and develop faster.

Annually transplanting bulbs from an old flower bed makes it possible to form flower beds of the desired shape and density. If the bulbs are not dug up from year to year, they will become smaller over time and may even disappear.

  1. Varietal tulips are annually removed from the ground for further planting in the fall. Unpretentious and simple varieties are dug up once every 2-3 years.
  2. Tulips return to their original place of growth no earlier than after 4 years, otherwise they will begin to get sick.
  3. The soil temperature during planting, at a depth of 15 centimeters, should be kept at 7-10 degrees Celsius.
  4. You can plant tulips even at the end of November - December, if there is snow. The flowerbed is covered with snow, dry leaves, and spruce branches to prevent the bulbs from freezing.
  5. It is better to plant tulips by variety. This makes it easier to care for them in the spring.
  6. The bulbs must be planted at least 2 weeks before the onset of frost, otherwise they will not have time to take root.
  7. Tulips with large non-standard flowers are quite demanding to care for. They require sufficient amounts of micro- and macroelements. These plants are fertilized more often than standard varieties.
  8. With dense carpet planting, plants also need a lot of nutrients. During the growing season, plants need 3-4 feedings.
  9. Manure is not used for feeding, as it leads to rotting of the bulbs.
Fertilizers containing chlorine are not used.

Proper planting of tulips in autumn: video

Planting tulips in open ground in the fall is a responsible undertaking. The quality and quantity of buds that appear in the spring depends on compliance with all the rules of planting, care and preparation for winter. Choosing the wrong time and violating the rules for planting bulbs often leads to undesirable consequences, including the absence of seedlings in the spring.

Find out favorable days for purchasing and planting bulbous plants according to the Lunar sowing calendar for gardeners and gardeners for 2018.

In addition, pink, purple, and blue hyacinths usually have broad-conical bulbs, yellow and orange hyacinths have narrow-conical bulbs, and white hyacinths have ovoid bulbs.

You need to order and pay for bulbous plants with delivery by mail in advance so that you will already receive the package by the time of planting season.

Peel the bulbs, sprinkle the sections with crushed coal or powdered fungicide. Let the cut dry and slightly cork for 2-3 days.

Before planting, treat the bulbs in a liquid disinfectant ( Vitaros, Maxim) according to the instructions.

Is it possible to plant bulbs, for example, in July-August?

When to buy lilies: autumn or spring?

When to plant lilies - in spring or autumn?

The most favorable time for planting lily bulbs is early September. The bulbs planted at this time will take root well and overwinter well - the bulbs are at rest and will not begin to grow. But in the fall it is difficult to find good planting material. Mostly they sell bulbs that are left over from the spring sale and have been in the refrigerator for almost a year.

You can plant lilies in the spring.

The optimal time for planting and replanting lilies in regions with short summers ( Moscow region, Leningrad region, Ural, Siberia) - mid - end of August.

It is better to mulch daffodil bulbs planted after dry storage (without roots) with fallen leaves (layer thickness of at least 10 cm); this operation will not be needed in the future, since daffodils can grow in one place for 5-7 years. The only exception is split-crowned daffodils, which are mulched annually.

When to plant hyacinths

Hyacinth bulbs are planted in central Russia ( Moscow region, Leningrad, Vologda, Kostroma and other regions) And Southern Urals at the end of September - beginning of October.

Indoor crocuses - plants that bloomed in a pot indoors - can be replanted in the garden after forcing them out.

Small bulbous plants ( crocuses, kandyki, chionodoxa, muscari, scylla, pushkinia, corydalis, galanthus and others) can not be dug up for several years until they grow.

The optimal time for planting tulip bulbs in central Russia ( Moscow region, Leningrad region, Non-Black Earth region) and regions with short summers (Ural, Siberia) occurs at the end of September - beginning of October, when the soil temperature at a depth of 10 cm is about + 10 ° C, and before the soil freezes, plants have time to form roots (about 20-30 days ). Plants that do not have time to take root well will receive less nutrition and will be stunted in growth. Immediately before planting, it is recommended to soak the bulbs for 30-60 minutes in a 0.5% solution of potassium permanganate or special disinfectants (for example, Maxima).

During a prolonged warm autumn, mulch the tops of the tulips with a 10 cm layer of peat so that the plants are not damaged by subsequent frosts.

Tulips that do not require digging for 3-6 years: Kaufman, Foster, Greig, species, and Darwinian hybrids, Triumph, Simple early And Simple late.

If it is not possible to plant hazel grouse bulbs immediately after purchase, protect them from drying out - place them in slightly damp peat or live sphagnum moss and put them in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.

If you already have imperial hazel grouse in your garden, then when the leaves turn yellow in the summer, you must dig them up and store them in a warm, dry place until the roots appear. Typically, new roots grow on the bulb in mid-August - early September. The appearance of roots and shoots is a signal that it is time to plant the bulbs stored for storage. Be sure to add a small layer of coarse river sand to the bottom of the hole - this will protect the bulbs from rotting.
