Tulle is nothing more than a window decoration that performs both a decorative function and a protective one from sunlight. A variety of options for this decoration can be found quite a lot, and directly for children's rooms. With the right choice, the room will sparkle with new colors and it will be cozy.

When selecting this element of the room, several criteria must be taken into account:

  • a color scheme;
  • harmony of textures;
  • material;
  • the presence of patterns and drawings;
  • do not disregard the remaining elements of the interior of the room.

Actual fabrics

In general, tulle is a French word, derived from the name of the city. And nowadays, it means a transparent, light, mesh or smooth fabric, usually made of semi-silk or cotton. Smooth fabric is produced on specialized tulle machines using 2 thread systems. If we talk about a patterned or curtain version, then specialized curtain or lace machines are used for its manufacture.

  The completion of the lace tulle is made of the same fabric from which the curtains are made. The color of the tulle is also matched to the tone.

In the modern world, window curtains have become necessary in order to protect privacy from prying eyes and this function has gone to the transparent silk, replacing the twitching nylon mesh. Also, many exquisite curtains are made from materials such as lining silk and linen.

Of course, those decorative fabrics that are produced in the form of the widest cuts - up to about 3 meters - have become priorities. At the same time, the lining can be quite narrow - about 70 cm. The texture of the curtains is best provided for a lighter and simpler, in contrast to the texture of the fabric on the furniture.

Color Options

When deciding what color the curtains in the children's room will be, it is worth considering that completely different shades are selected for girls and boys.

If the room is intended for girlthen pastel shades should be chosen. It can be keys of pink, yellow, lilac, light green. Also, the image of a floral print or your favorite fairy-tale characters will perfectly fit into the interior. Highlight tulle color  It turns out, picking up more contrasting curtains.

If the room is intended for a boy, then the color scheme must certainly be cold. Perfect blue, blue, gray or neutral white on its own. It’s good if the tulle will have something in common with the wallpaper or harmoniously play along flooring  and bedding.

Not a single window

  • canopies over cots;
  • decorative curtains in the room, separating the bedroom or other area.

Let's look at some examples.

Canopies - an undeservedly forgotten decoration of a nursery

About twenty years ago, few people thought of hanging a tulle canopy over a crib. But in modern design projects it can be found often.

The methods of attachment and design of the fabric used are very diverse.

  The project is interesting solution ultramodern decorative canopy. The border of the paintings is combined with the color scheme of the interior.

For the window, a combination of a short tulle with floral patterns and tulle curtains on the floor, decorated with a modest addition in the form of chains of hearts, was chosen.

  It is convenient for a children's room to buy a set of ready-made linen, which includes a tulle canopy.

In the photo - kits manufactured by Funnababy. Such canopies can be bought both separately and together with the rest of the bedding for the child.

Among Russian manufacturers, one can note the Golden Goose brand, under which luxury children's canopy sets are produced.

  The shade of the tulle for the canopy, like the curtains, it is desirable to choose in the color scheme of the children's room.

But the white tulle is good in that it perceives any color of the interior and especially the walls. In the photo, pink walls paint the fabric in delicate shades of flamingos.

  The colors of the canopy tulle and curtains are selected in the colors of the interior gamut - white and pastel light green.

Who lives behind the curtain?

A large room seems more comfortable if part of it is fenced off with a “wall” of tulle. A visually separated niche may be designed for sleeping - the princess's bedroom will come out.

  A different color scheme is selected for the child’s occupation area.

In this children's room the niche in which the place for classes is located was separated by tulle. In addition, visual color separation is used. Note that green tones are complementary to the pink (reddish) range.

The sleeping area in the room is separated by tulle curtains on the floor.

When a child lives, plays, studies and sleeps in one room - the decision to separate a niche for sleep suggests itself. The result was a cozy bedroom.

  The berth is highlighted in color and fenced with a tulle curtain.

Enough light enters the rest of the room from the window in the curtained part of the nursery.

Harmony in everything

Tulle curtains are rarely used on their own. As a rule, on the window they are complemented by curtains or curtains.

Speaking about a combination of tulle with other curtains, it is necessary to pay attention not only to the compatibility of colors, but also to the materials.

  If the tulle is woven from cotton or some other natural thread, then synthetic curtains have no place nearby. Stop your choice on curtains made of similar natural materials. Suitable cotton, linen, knitted.

And if the curtains themselves are even, dense, heavy, and some decorative elements are present, then the tulle should be selected weightless and airy, unobtrusive color and with a neutral pattern.
  Exclusively with the uniformity and lightness of the curtains, the presence of original drawings and reliefs of tulle is permissible.

The combination of textures is equally important. The window on which you try to combine a too bright pattern for both the curtains and the tulle will not look spectacular at all.

Lambrequin - yes!

As for the combination of lambrequins and tulle, they can be considered an ideal couple.

There are an incredible number of them. For example, to soft lambrequins, which are complemented by chic folds, it is quite possible to use curtains from tulle, which will add completeness to the design of the window.

For a romantic girl’s interior, a lambrequin, the edges of which are decorated or curly, is perfect. Thus, an interior is created for the little princess. If the tulle has a pattern, then in addition you can choose a lambrequin that is decorated with bouquets of flowers or repeats the pattern.

About eaves and not only

Mounting options for the cornice can be very different:

  • elegant option - fastening to bows to a bar;
  • fastening with loops and rings to curtains using clip-on clips;
  • fastenings can be of different shapes - balls, leaves, pyramids, etc.

Decorative cornices give room for the imagination of designers.

  The eaves in the form of a tiled roof are entered into the general concept of design - a fabulous house.

  The original solution of eaves for a narrow dormer-window.

And finally, it’s worth mentioning the size of the window itself in the children's room. For a very wide panoramic window, a short tulle is suitable, which literally will reach the windowsill. But a small window can be decorated and visually expanded with a traditional long tulle and curtains on an elongated cornice.

In the photo, tulle with prints produced by the Russian company TAS. The company produces curtains with a variety of motifs, consistent with the interests of children. Motifs of wheelbarrows, flowers, butterflies, popular cartoon characters are offered.

The cost of such a tulle measuring 300x265 cm starts at 1,000 rubles.

In order for the child to feel protected from prying eyes from the street, even with the windows not closed, it is advisable to hang a tulle on them. We offer you a selection of photos with the ideas for decorating a tulle window in a children's room with options for a girl and a boy.

Tulle curtains are relevant not only for rooms whose interior space is clearly visible from the outside. We are so used to them that often without them the window decoration seems unfinished to us, and any interior is not cozy enough. Let's try to figure out how tulle decorates modern children's rooms today, and what are the general points of its choice.

Drapery Options

It is believed that the traditional snow-white tulle is suitable for all residential premises and harmoniously looks in any interior styles. But for a child’s room it’s better not to regret the colors. Therefore, when choosing curtains for the nursery, you should pay attention to brighter colors and non-standard style solutions, as well as not only to classic tulle, but also to other varieties of translucent natural fabrics: veil, organza, chiffon, light silk. They are all quite plastic and easily assembled into soft, smooth folds, which is especially important, since the decorative properties of tulle largely depend on how it is draped.

The interior of the children's room should be bright, colorful, but without excessive pomp and pretentiousness. Simple, simple draperies will decorate it, and you can fix them using ordinary satin or nylon ribbons, which are great for a nursery.

Consider some options for draperies from tulle for the nursery, which are easy to do on their own.

Simple, but very beautiful draperies, literally in minutes, can be made of two contrasting tulle curtains hung parallel to each other on a two-profile curtain rod. They are made as follows:

  1. 1 Curtains are bred crosswise in different directions and fixed in the middle side by hooks, magnets or ribbons.
  2. 2 Only one curtain is taken to the side, and the second is left to drop vertical folds from the cornice.
  3. 3 The curtain, located closer to the room, is added to the center and fixed with a ribbon tied with a bow.
  4. 4 The curtain closest to the room is collected like a lambrequin.
  5. 5 Such draperies will look even more interesting if they use not two, but three or four curtains.

A wide long curtain is located along the entire eaves and falls to the floor. A curtain of narrower, contrasting color is thrown over the ledge in the form of a swag. Its ends while hanging on the sides with soft folds.

Curtains from two pieces of tulle in a contrasting color, wrap around a round cornice, fasten with several stitches in the middle and at the ends and fix with ribbons or grabs.

The photo shows an interesting idea of \u200b\u200bhow to hang a tulle in a child’s room using ordinary garters.

Not too lush pelmets with tulle are also welcome in the nursery. They make it possible to beautifully drape the window opening without involving the main curtains.

You can also make them yourself and quickly. To do this, one or two not too wide, fixed in shallow folds, strips of fabric of different colors and different lengths are fixed on a multi-profile cornice.

In the photo an excellent version of the tulle in the nursery for the boy. Any child will be delighted with the curtains with the image of his beloved hero.

Thus, experimenting with tulle, each time draping it in a new way, using only your imagination and clips in the form of ribbons or pickups can be infinite.

Tulle on eyelets

Young children love to play with curtains, and it is not always possible to stop these games. Therefore, when choosing tulle curtains in the nursery, care must be taken to ensure that their fastening to the cornice is not only convenient, but also durable. Eyelets - plastic or metal crimp rings installed in the upper part of the curtains fully meet these requirements.

Eyelets are not only a strong and functional mount, but also a curtain accessory very fashionable today. Thanks to them, the folds on the curtains look very neat and the same. The cornice for such fastening will require a round (in exceptional cases, string). To hang a tulle on a cornice, no additional clothespins or ties are needed. It is enough to string the rings on his bar. The grommets move very easily along the cornice, but hold on to it very firmly. Even if you pull the fabric with an effort, the curtains will remain hanging in their place.

Since the eyelets are in trend today, a ready-made tulle with such a fastener is always available. And if you want to decorate your baby’s room with curtains of your own design, install the grommets yourself. You can buy them at any store specializing in the sale of sewing accessories. The truth in this case will have to be limited to plastic rings, since special equipment is required to install metal eyelets.

Photo Printed Curtains

Photo printing on curtains is another fashionable trend in modern interior design. Ready-made photo canvas with images of favorite children's heroes, photos of fairy-tale cities, wonders of the world, cartoon scenes, beautiful landscapes is widely available for sale. In addition, you can order exclusive curtains in a special workshop according to your own design and do not limit your imagination to a standard pattern on the curtains. For example, to transfer to the fabric your own creation of a young owner or mistress of a nursery.

Due to the fact that the tulle has a transparent texture, the image on it seems to be highlighted and an illusion of its volume and perspective is created.
  As for the quality of photo images, they are applied to the fabric with persistent and safe paints that do not fade in the sun and do not fade during washing. Therefore, curtains with photo printing differ not only in exclusive design, but also in durability.

When decorating a nursery for children, it is important to understand that it will inevitably become the main emphasis in the interior. Therefore, if the shading created with these curtains seems insufficient, combine them with plain long curtains of soft light colors or a dark but muted color. Variegated and vibrant partner curtains will draw attention to themselves and the image on the tulle will be lost in their frame.

Kisei

Kisei - curtains made of multi-colored or plain, simple or decorated with solid decorative elements threads. The functionality of kisei and tulle is about the same. Both these and other curtains do not cut off the daylight penetrating the room through the window completely, but gently scatter it and cover the inner space from the views from the street.

Together, their light-shielding properties are doubled, so the tulle is perfectly combined with muslin. And given that many children cannot fall asleep in a too dark room, the combination of tulle and kisei in the nursery is sometimes quite enough even at night. With this design, the nursery will always look fresh and elegant. In addition, Kisei is perfectly draped in any of the ways described above.

If we talk about muslin with solid elements, then there is a decor that is created specifically for children's rooms. It can be multi-colored threads. wooden beads, plastic flowers, emoticons, funny figures. Children like these curtains and create a special festive atmosphere in the nursery.

The only thing I want to warn about is that the curtains of the thread do not need to be used in the room where children under 3 years old live. They will definitely want to play with them, and this will inevitably lead to entanglement of the muslin and make it unattractive.

Tulle with roman or roller blinds

For a comfortable sleep, children, like adults, require different conditions. And if some babies fall asleep soundly even in the afternoon, when the sunlight is only slightly muffled by tulle or muslin, then others require more significant shading. In the nursery for these purposes often do not use sliding curtains, but lifting Roman or roller blinds. There are a number of reasons for this:

  • Depending on the size of the window and the degree of light protection you are interested in, you can choose a model of different lengths, widths and densities.
  • You can also choose any color for such curtains, including photo printing that is very popular today.
  • Using the lifting mechanism is very convenient. With it, curtains can always be easily raised or lowered to the desired height. In addition, the control chain is located high enough, and if the child is small, he will not be able to reach it himself.
  • Simple installation and dismantling allows you to hang curtains with different patterns on the same mechanism and change the style of the room according to your mood or as the child grows older.
  • Lifting curtains are often impregnated with a special compound, due to which dust does not accumulate on them.

The principle of operation of Roman and rolled curtains is the same, but they differ in appearance.

Roman models are reminiscent of Austrian curtains and, when rising, are collected in flat, horizontal folds hanging over one another. Roller blinds are more like a kind of solid blinds. They are more austere than the Roman ones, their canvases are smooth, without folds, and when lifted, they are wound on a shaft and assembled in a tight roll.

In combination with tulle and and look very impressive. During the day, with the curtains open, the tulle gently scatters the light, making the lighting in the room comfortable for children's vision. At night, with the curtains closed, it softens the strict forms of the Roman and rolled models and gives the atmosphere of a children's room additional comfort.

Childhood passes very quickly. According to statistics, it accounts for only ten percent of the duration of a human life. This gives an occasion from birth to surround babies only with practical, convenient and beautiful things. These include tulle. But, choosing the right model, do not forget to ask the opinion of the small owner of the room. After all, the most beautiful curtains are those that are liked by those who use them.

Quick article navigation

Tulle in a children's room is needed not only from an aesthetic, but also from a practical point of view. Here are just a few reasons why you should hang it in a nursery:

  • Tulle slightly dims the daylight, but at the same time leaves the room well-lit for everyday activities.
  • It can protect the curtains from burning out due to sunlight.
  • With the help of a light curtain, you can cover a not too beautiful window sill, frame or radiator.
  • Tulle protects the curtains, and the room itself from dust flying from the window.
  • If the curtain is not dense enough, tulle can slightly reduce their light transmission.
  • Just completing the curtains with the correct tulle, you can fix some mistakes in the design of the nursery. For example, he can “support” an object that does not fit into the interior or balance a room’s too cold / warm color scheme.
  • Tulle makes simple curtains more elegant.
  • Without it, it is difficult to imagine windows, or.

By the way, tulle can be used to decorate the crib with a canopy or as a "partition" for zoning the space.

In this material, we will give some simple tips to help you choose the fabric, style, size, color and design of tulle for a children's bedroom.

Step 1. Choose a fabric

Tulle is a transparent or translucent curtain made of light synthetic or natural material. For a children's room, it is better to choose fabric from:

  • Cotton - the cotton tulle always looks beautiful, blends with linen / cotton curtains, looks great in classic and "rustic" interiors (in the Provence style, for example). Cotton is environmentally friendly and therefore most suitable for a nursery. By the way, it is easiest to sew tulle with your own hands from cotton fabric. However, such material sits strongly (this must be taken into account when sewing) and fades in the sun.

  • Polyester - fabrics made from this synthetic material do not wrinkle, do not shrink after washing, do not fade in the sun, and quickly dry. In addition, they are quite durable. The disadvantages are their unnatural origin, often clearly artificial appearance and the ability to accumulate static electricity, which is why they attract dust, stick to your legs and hair upon contact.

  • Blend material (cotton with polyester)best option  for tulle in the nursery, as this mixed material is both beautiful and durable.

The texture of tulle fabric is:

  • Smooth (like chiffon)  - universal option;
  • Mesh (e.g., tulle, lace) and / or patterned (e.g., organza)  - more suitable for classic interiors;

When combining tulle with curtains, keep in mind that their materials should be similar. So, organza will be combined with silk or rayon, cotton - with more dense cotton, linen and blended material.

Step 2. Size

Whether you want to order curtains in an atelier, buy a product in a store, or sew a tulle with your own hands, it is important to correctly calculate the required size of the finished canvas / canvas.

Ready tulle can have a length (from the cornice):

  • Below the window sill line is 10-25 cm;
  • 1-2 cm do not reach the floor;
  • Touch the floor;
  • Lie on the floor for 5-10 cm.

When buying fabric for sewing, do not forget to add a margin to the length of the finished product, taking into account shrinkage (different fabrics need a different margin) and allowances for processing the upper and lower edges of the tulle.

An example of a short tulle in a boy’s nursery

The width of the finished tulle is considered more complicated, because you need to take into account the assembly coefficient, which shows how many times the fabric for sewing should be wider than the curtains in the finished and assembled form. The larger the build factor, the thicker the creases. Most often, a coefficient of 2 is suitable for tulle; 2.2, or 2.5.

  • The width of one tulle canvas can be calculated by the formula: Cornice length x Assembly coefficient. By the way, the length of the cornice, as a rule, should be 50 cm greater than the width of the window so that the curtains protrude 25 cm from the sides on the walls.
  • If you want to design the windows with two symmetrical tulle canvases, then to calculate the width of each canvas, instead of the full length of the cornice, take into account its half.

Also, do not forget to add allowances for processing sections of the canvas (approximately 7 cm on both sides) and 4 cm to freedom to the calculated width of the finished product.

Step 3. Style

Tulle can have any style:

  Also see our other materials:

  • Classic straight (short or long)  - the most versatile style that is appropriate in any interior and can be combined with almost any curtains, for example, with as shown in the following photo.

Combination with the Roman curtain in the interior of the nursery

  • Roman is a shortened and also versatile style that will be appropriate both in the classic and in the modern interior, both in the room of the boy and the girl. Roman tulle is good because it folds beautifully, it is easy to wash, remove, hang, adjust the length.

  • Roll - a roll type tulle is not so often found ready-made, but you can order it at the studio. It is comfortable, practical and fits well into the interior of a modern bedroom.

  • Austrian / French / English  - This type of tulle has a shortened length and lush folds. Such a tulle looks very elegant, because it fits only in classic interiors and for the most part girlish.

  • Panel (Japanese)  - represents a smooth cloth of cloth moving along the guide. The panel tulle fits perfectly into the modern interior, looks neat, and is especially relevant in the design. Panel tulle is best combined with the same type of curtains. An example of such a combination is presented in the photo below.

Step 4. Design, color, pattern and combination with curtains

Tulle - this is the element that is most often chosen for the main curtains. Here are some tips to help you get your bearings:

  • If tulle is intended to complement dense curtains or light but bright curtains with any pattern, then it is most likely to choose a plain tulle fabric.
  • The color of the tulle is most often selected in the color of the curtains (example in the photo), in the color of the walls, in the tone of the pattern on the curtains.

  • Bright tulle, as well as lace veils are the safest to combine with plain medium-density curtains. In this case, the color of the tulle pattern should overlap with the color of the main curtains, or at least with wallpaper / carpet / furniture.
  • The most versatile tulle color is white. Also, in many cases, tulle in light gray, cream or beige color is suitable for window decoration in a children's room.

Doubt your choice of color? Choose white and make no mistake

Light gray color is very practical and non-marking

If tulle is used solo in a children's bedroom, then the choice of its color, pattern and design can be dictated by any interior elements: wallpaper, upholstery, sleeping textiles, and other accents.

  • At the same time, remember that in small rooms, rooms with a lack of daylight and in bedrooms whose windows face north, the tulle should be either white or have some kind of warm shade (cream, cream, coral, pink). In the latter case, the curtain will become a “substitute” for the sun and make the interior more comfortable.

Pink option for children

  • If the interior or the main curtains are overloaded with variegated details / prints, then the tulle should be chosen plain or with a not too bright pattern / pattern. And vice versa, if the interior is restrained, the walls, curtains and the rest of the textiles in the room are mostly plain, then the tulle can be selected with an active pattern.

In this interior of the nursery in the style of the movie "Frozen" there are so many bright details that plain tulle and curtains are chosen plain

  • In a small room, tulle will look more harmonious either without a drawing, or with an inconspicuous and small pattern. A colorful motley tulle is the privilege of spacious rooms.
  • Girls can decorate the tulle in the bedroom: classic floral and floral motifs, polka dots, hearts, fairies, bows, butterflies, dragonflies, birds, characters from favorite cartoons, for example, Frozen or Masha and the Bear.

  • The windows of the boy’s room can be decorated with tulle with marine prints, cars, airplanes, trains, dinosaurs, images of your favorite characters (for example, from the movie “Cars” or “Ice Age”). For it is better to choose curtains with geometric shapes, striped (example in the photo below), in a rhombus, in a cage.

Striped tulle on grommets in the interior of a teenage bedroom

  • The most universal prints that are suitable for decorating the window of both the children's and teenage bedrooms, the rooms of the girl and / or boy are: strip, cage, rhombus, floral print. Also a universal print for preschool children can be called images of various animals - from dogs to giraffes (pictured).
