If you will use the tile, then follow the instructions of the selected brand of glue. Do not forget that grouting is performed only a day after laying the tiles. During this time, the glue will have time to dry well.

Other materials can also be used for decoration - it all depends on your imagination and interior design.

Creating a fireplace, we, of course, want it to add coziness in the room, and the solution to this problem can be an imitation of flame. Today on sale are devices that can be placed inside a decorative fireplace, and they will transmit an image of burning firewood and even the characteristic sound of crackling.

But you can more creatively approach this issue. For example, make the back wall of the fireplace mirrored and place logs and candles in front of it. Another interesting idea is to place a lamp inside and tighten the firebox niche with a translucent film. If the film is yellow or orange, it will create a warm glow effect.

Place in the apartment

Sketch and drawing

Prototyping

Usually it is recommended to immediately calculate the material consumption and start working according to the drawing and dimensions. But the fireplace is an object aesthetically very responsible and rather laborious. Therefore, it is better to spend half a day or a day on its exact layout, so as not to break the finished structure later.

The layout is easy to make from packing cardboard and polystyrene on PVA glue or just on adhesive tape. Precise dimensions and fine finishes are not required; quickly ready-made layout quickly painted with quick-drying white paint, or painted in the desired manner.

On the layout you will immediately see all the flaws in the construction and design. In addition, the layout is lightweight, it can be moved along the wall or moved from corner to corner. Finally, on the layout, you will be able to work out the skills of processing curved surfaces and boldly take up the construction of a “real” false fireplace. The time spent on the construction of the layout is more than paid for by the speed and quality of work.

Building

• We build a false fireplace on the frame of a metal U-shaped profile, CD or UD. You can buy junk residues on the cheap or use the waste from your previous jobs. If the remnants of wooden battens or picket fence are lying in the pantry or shed, they will go too - the construction of the load does not carry. Going frame on the screws. First, we attach a support frame to the wall, and on it we assemble the rest of the frame.
• The horizontal / vertical details of the frame parts are checked by the building level, and the rectangularity of the mounting areas is checked with a cord or tape measure. In a rectangle, the diagonals are known to be equal. If the diagonals are different in length, we get a parallelogram.

We glue the pillows in rough accordance with the future relief. They will keep the material and save it.

• Then, according to the technology described above for the portal, from several sheets of drywall we make the foot of the fireplace. We process it in a clean form, try it on, make marks on it on the sidewalls, and ... put it aside for now. In the same way we make a mantelpiece, and also put it off for now.
• For deep gypsum / alabaster finishing, cover the sidewall material and process it in shape. When finishing with drywall, we round the corners; if necessary, we make flutes with an abrasive mesh on a shaped bar with a sliding lateral emphasis on the guide rail. In the absence of skills of this kind of work, you can practice on a piece of drywall.
• Now we mount the foot, on mounting glue or silicone, and the mantelpiece, on glue / silicone and self-tapping screws. The shelf needs to be fixed securely, since it will have some load.
• The next stage is a thorough filling of all slots and holes with self-tapping heads and smoothing flush with an abrasive mesh on a simple bar. Putty in two or three layers to obtain a homogeneous surface of the entire fireplace. After that, if necessary, we glue on the sidewalls and crossbeam additional decorative elements: sockets, monograms, monograms, etc. They should be made of non-wetting material - PVA putty used for final finishing, water-based.
• Next, we paint the firebox inside in a black matte color and make a frame from plywood, an electric cardboard or a material similar to them in terms of material properties - a frame for a photo frame simulating a flame. Only the screen should be visible. The frame must be made removable and painted in the same color as the inside of the firebox ..
• The final step is to putty PVA, as described above. In front of her, if provided, is the coloring of the fireplace under the stone. Now it remains only to put a simulator of flame in the furnace, put in its place a frame, and after a while you yourself will begin to think that this fireplace is real.

Portal

The portal or cladding is the most important decorative detail of the fireplace. On sale there are many portals for decorative fireplaces - from polyurethane to natural stone. There are even portals with imitation of valuable wood. What is the point, if keeping wood near a fire is simply dangerous, one can only guess. Unless to demonstrate to all at once that this fireplace is not real.

Perhaps you will find the right shopping portal for yourself. In this case, all dimensions of the fireplace should be fitted to it, and the style and design of the portal should be consistent with the decor of the apartment. And note - the purchase portal is mounted on the base once; remaking such a fireplace without spending money on a new portal is no longer possible.

In this case, is it not better to make a drywall portal from a drywall yourself? From the same drywall?

• The technology is simple: we glue several pieces to the required thickness with assembly glue or building silicone, cut the contour with a hand saw, then use abrasive mesh on the shaped bar to select hollows, recesses, make roundings, etc. Craftsmen even get round columns in this way, laying on top of each other a dozen two or three gypsum plasterboards. But this, of course, is an amateur job.
• After giving the necessary shape, all the portal cracks are carefully sealed with putty; next - the entire outer surface is putty too and is smoothed with an abrasive mesh until an even white layer is obtained. If necessary, “grease” and smooth again.
• The final touch - impregnation with putty (do not confuse with putty) PVA. It looks like a very liquid PVA glue and is designed to impregnate porous surfaces. Having saturated in several layers, with complete drying of the previous one, we get a washable shining semi-matt surface white color. What does it look like? Right, on Carrara marble. Before impregnation, you can paint with gouache under another marble or some other stone.
